Less Bad than Isabel

August 28, 2011 11:23:56.639

As bad as the storm sounded last night (and I woke up to some howling winds) - things didn't go so badly here in my neighborhood. The power went out at midnight, but just came back on. The freezer is still frozen, so it looks like we caught a break that way. There are still a lot of people on the east coast without power though, so I count myself lucky.

Oh, the title - after the last big storm (Isabel) that hit us, we were out of power for four days. That was a lot more exciting, but not the good kind :)

Update: I have no idea whether it's related, but maybe a data center somewhere had a problem. My Xbox Live profile had to be recovered - which meant resetting my password, as I had no idea what it was. As much of a pain as that was, if that's the most damage we took, it's all good.

Here Comes Irene

Game on:

The big question: will our power go out, and - if it does - for how long?

Not a Miss

May 24, 2011 21:50:02.982

No hail, but the sky got dark very fast, and we are getting a lot of lightning and wind right now. North of here, TV is reporting really nasty hail:

... And TV weather is telling me that rotation is headed straight at Arlington. This week has had way too much excitement for me...

Update: Well, that was exciting. Tornado warning here a few minutes ago, hotel sent someone door to door. Danger seems to have passed for the most part, but - there's another line of cells west of here. So it looks like it's not over yet.

Missed Me By That Much

May 24, 2011 21:10:59.482

I'm having an exciting weather year here in Dallas. Last winter, it was ice. Now, I'm just missing this:

This week, I'm staying in Arlington. I'm not even sure why; usually, I stay in Grapevine. Look at where that storm is headed as I post this...

More Ice?

February 8, 2011 7:43:04.752

This looks like fun:

At least it warmed up while I was back at home, and all of last week's ice went away....

Does Weather.com Know Something?

February 6, 2011 10:48:23.971

Glaciers covered the entire state of Maryland and no one told me:

These graphics glitches are getting pretty amusing :)

Winter in Dallas

February 4, 2011 15:29:47.589

This is very unusual for Dallas - an ice storm is one thing, but having three days of sub-freezing weather (keeping the ice on the roads) followed by a couple of inches of snow? That's weird. Here was what I faced leaving the hotel to get to DFW this morning - bear in mind that there's pretty solid ice under that mess:

I-635 was better near the airport, but here's what it looked like near the hotel:

The airport was no joy, either:

It's not all bad though - I'm catching an earlier flight only because of a delay, so I do manage to get home a bit early :)
