Mass Effect 2 on Insanity

July 25, 2010 23:16:31.675

I started playing Mass Effect 2 on "Insanity" earlier today, and boy - it's completely unforgiving at that level. On lower levels, if you make the mistake of ducking out of cover at the wrong moment, or taking a sub-optimal party on a mission - you get away with it. On Insanity? You die, fast.

I'll say this - it's certainly a challenge this way. I have to pay much, much closer attention at all times. A moment of distraction, and bam - back to the last save point :)

Hehe, I went for Insanity on my first playthrough as a Vanguard, didn't use the special charge ability more than a couple of times...

You really need to stay in cover 99% of the time, charging into a mass of enemies to stagger one of them? Certain death a couple of seconds after charge invulnerability wears off.

The teammate-positioning buttons really become your friends, make a habit of positioning them behind cover as you advance down a corridor :)

Just a heads up, the fight I had the most trouble with was the final one on the planet where you meet Alenko/Williams, cover is limited, and there are multiple phases to the fight, all of which can be difficult.

Can't remember ever having reloading to finish a fight in any game as many times as I did that one :D

It certainly has a bit more of a realistic feel though, considering the odds really are against you.
