Now With Like

April 22, 2010 10:57:23.762

At the bottom of each post there's a Facebook "Like" button now - if you have a Facebook account, hitting that will just up the "like" count for the post over there. It was simple to add (once I fixed the stupid CSS styling issues I had with my copy/paste job).

Hmmm... I can't see that there's any connection between the "Like" button here and on the corresponding post on Facebook.

1) I've clicked on the button on this page, it increments the local counter but doesn't affect the FB post.

2) I've "Liked" the FB post, but it doesn't affect the counter here.

3) I've "Unliked" on both sides, still no effect on the other side.

So it looks as if there's still some glue missing ;-)

That's because the post on the blog and the update on FB are independent. While that sounds strange, here's how that all happens:

I post to my blog

have a service in the blog server that auto-tweets

he tweet is picked up via a Facebook service and repeated in my news stream

Thus, liking a post and liking a news stream entry are unrelated.
