Don't Expand the Baseball Playoffs
It's not just the "purists" that Selig denigrates who oppose another expansion of the playoffs; it's those of us who don't look forward to a November World Series in horrible weather. If Selig wants to expand the playoffs, he should also do the following:
- Revert to the 154 game schedule
- Return to a reasonable number of double headers in that schedule
- Have every round of the playoffs except the World Series be best of 5
Otherwise, we'll be looking at baseball under ridiculous weather conditions.

Ah. Here is a pet peeve of mine. If you win your division, you get essentially no benefit over the Wild Card team. Oh, you get home field advantage for the first round, but how much is that really worth? Whoever gets the hot pitching will win a 5-game series. So a team that is a lock for the WC has no incentive to try to win the division; they rest their starters to get the rotation in shape for the first round, knowing they are in.
How about this idea: Allow TWO wild card teams from each league. Let those two WC teams play a ONE GAME playoff to decide who gets into the real playoffs(er, sorry, the "postseason"). You are much less certain to move on if you are a WC team than a division winner. This will give teams an incentive to go all out to win the division so they don't have to face the one-game "play-in".
