I didn't yesterday, but we have several independent stores in the area with good selections of new and used media. Not everyone's listening habits fit into downloading singles from iTunes.

I did eat dinner yesterday next to one of the record stores, and the people I saw going in and out of it weren't born in the 70s, and some of them not until the late 80s, so it isn't an old-farts only store.

That last comment was from me, not trying to be anonymous, just forgot to type in my name on your form :)

I usually go to record store, because I want the real thing, not just a digital download. I like the feel of a disc on my hand while the music play

But I'm born long before 70s...

I have not bought a cd in years, and sales numbers say i have lots of company

You know, it's kinda funny how someone who goes against the majority in some things seems to either delight in or find validation in being in the majority in other things ;)

I'd say the days of mega "record" stores are long gone, but smaller shops are viable and likely to stay that way a while.

And I don't have any DRM problems with my physical media, either :)

And that was me again...why isn't this thing remembering the author name the way it used to? I never had to repeat this on Safari on the old blog.

I'm not your average person by any means, but I've bought exactly one song by electronic download. When I buy music, I want the CD, so I'm not subjected to arbitrary and capricious decisions by the particular music download service in use.

Until a couple of years ago, I used to go to record stores on a weekly basis. It was good for listening to new music, getting a few recommendations, organizing concert trips, talking with people, having a smoke and a coffee.

Oh, and buying vinyl.

Unfortunately, I do not have the time to do that nowadays, but I miss those days. I still buy CDs and vinyl, btw. I do not own a single digital download.

As for sales numbers: Who gives a damn about sales numbers? If that argument is valid, then its about time that Smalltalk disappears from the world.

Here here Claus!

Appealing to the majority is kinda silly, IMO.

I just don't understand the aversion to digital downloads. iTunes removed DRM, and Amazon never had it. Digital makes it easier to move the music around; if I have a CD, I need to go to the trouble of ripping it before I can make use if it. Vinyl is even worse in that regard.

I do not have an aversion. I like having a product in hand.

I love looking at the artwork.

Thats the same for games for me. I like boxed games.

I like looking at my shelf.
