Living in 1975
How can a modern person be able to say this?
Said [Senator] Nelson: "I've never used an ATM, so I don't know what the fees are. It's true, I don't know how to use one."
That was in the context of a debate about ATM fees. Never mind the issue itself; I'm just gobsmacked by the idea that we have a person in the Senate who's never used an ATM. Sadly, I doubt he's alone in that regard....

A top-level politician has gofers to do things like withdraw cash or write e-mail messages. If you hadn't noticed yet, they're all out of touch with the way regular people live.

He doesn't know what the fees are? The fees are whatever you want them to be! If you don't want to pay a fee, you go to your own bank's ATM. Voila. Glad to hear that the United States Senate has nothing better to do than worry about fees that people dont't have to pay unless they want to.
And I don't necessarily think it's related to being in the Senate; I think it's more related to age. My father-in-law just turned 82, and he told me that he's never used an ATM either(he'd much rather go to the cute teller in the bank).
My mother-in-law is 77 and has never been on an airplane, but that's a different story for a different blog entry.

But Tom, your father in law isn't in the senate, making rules about things he doesn't comprehend :)
